Employer Sponsored RSMS visa applicants
We started our application process in May 2006, having been offered a sponsored visa, RSMS. It is a time consuming activity initially, making sure you have all the necessary paperwork, certified copies of important documents and then completing the necessary visa forms, police check requests and so forth.
By the beginning of July we were ready to submit to DIMA - our agent came on board in June and meant that whilst I'd prepared myself for most things they were there to confirm, check with and chase through - a great help. I sent many emails which were quickly replied to aiding me no end! Once the visa application was submitted we then had to indure the waiting. Having an agent at this stage meant we weren't alone - they checked delivery had been made, when we had an issue with the medicals being partially incomplete they were there to advise us, then when police checks came through again they could follow through. Being in the same time zone to the processing centre alone was a great help!
Due to the nature of having a job to get to we needed a quick turnaround, we'd hoped to start work at the beginning of October which meant it was a nail biting time. Even though the RSMS is a quick visa process (some other independent visas can take years) our short 6 weeks dragged but when we got that early morning call from Mark it was amazing - I could tell he enjoyed this part of his job as he built up the suspense before telling us the fantastic news!
Within weeks we'd packed up our house and lives and we're on a flight over having said many sad goodbyes! We'd already arranged packers and bank accounts but our agents had contacts of recommended companies should we had needed it, which we did look through for reference (we were lucky in that we hadn't the issue of housing and schools as these were already organised too).
We've already been in Australia for one month and it is beginning to feel like home! We're waiting on our container to arrive at the moment but that's the last stage to be completed.
We've been very fortunate - this time last year we hadn't even contemplated moving out of the UK! If we'd had to go through this process without the support of an agent I'm not sure if we'd have completed it yet - and I know my husbands employers hadn't gone through sponsoring before so they would've found it hard initially too! I'd certainly recommend using an agent again - it's a hard enough process with an expert on your side but alone, goodness knows!
J. Sheppy, UK.
